The Peonies

The Origins Of Our Farm

THE PERFECT MIX

Soil & Climate

Peonies thrive in cooler climates where they get a pronounced winter chill and they tolerate up to 60 below temperatures.  They need cold weather to flourish.  The soil in the Matanuska Valley is rich, sandy, dark, and cool giving the peonies the perfect environment.  And with our season is also the longest growing season for peonies you have the perfect combination for peonies to prosper.

COMPLETE PERFECTION

The Finest Blooms

We chose varieties that are all stunnning and fragrant double blooms.  They range in red, pinks, and whites.  You can’t go wring with a mixed bouquet of peonies.

SPECIALIZING IN SIX VARIETIES

Selected Peonies

Sarah Bernhart

You just cannot go wrong with the Sarah’s!  An all-time favorite and delightfully fragrant, Sarah’s stunning double bloom of deep pink to the light rose-pink center has ruffled inner petals occasionally flecked with raspberry.  These beauties will take your breath away and go great in a bouquet with most colors!

Shirley Temple

What a breath of fresh air to see the splash of pink in this double white peony.  Delightfully fragrant with a striking show of blush pink, loosely arranged ruffled petals the Shirley is graceful as its namesake fading into ivory white as they age.  Great to add sweet beauty to a bouquet!

Red Charm

This vivid crimson double bloom could be seen as not being red at all but a fuchsia.  Either way you see it, the Kansas is considered the very best double red peony.  With deep red petals that do not fade this beauty will delight in a bouquet

Kansas

This bold, vibrant red beauty comes out big and full.  A lush double bloom that holds its color and brings out the best in a bouquet. Ruffled, bomb-type blooms with deep merlot-red petals with piled-high peak centers.  A reminiscence of old rose with a hint of cloves gives you a delightful fragrance.

Victoire De La Marne

Commonly known as the garden peony, the Victoire is no common peony.  Named after the First Battle of the Marne in World War I, perfection is seen in the strikingly intense colored fuchsia-red double bloom splashed with a bold magenta that mature to a deep pink.  The Victoire gives off a deep aroma that you will love.

Festiva Maxima/Boule de Neige

Popular for over 150 years, the Festiva’s large double bloom is stunning and delightfully fragrant. This hybrid is just as stunning. Pure snow white with the occasional splashes of yellow, pink and crimson, these frilly petals will take your breath away!
