BEAUTIFUL BOUQUETS

Tips & Tricks

You have your fresh buds and now you want to make sure they last as long as possible.  WHat do you do next?  We have come up with a few tips and tricks to do just that.

Flower Food

You don’t always have access to the flower food packets.  No worries! It is easy to make your own flower food.  Just add a spoonful of regular granulated sugar to the water. This will mimic the sugar rush that occurs during photosynthesis, helping to keep the flowers fresh. Make sure to replace the water every two days, because mixing in sugar can encourage bacteria to grow.

Keep Them Chilled

Placing your peonies in the fridge at night is a guaranteed way to help them last longer. But you can take the trick a step further. If you are not ready to put them in a vase yet you can wrap them in newspaper, and store them in the fridge until you’re ready to use them. They won’t open up in the fridge, but you can preserve them for an extra day or two if you need them to last for an event.

The Angle

To get maximum absorption, cut your stems at an angle under running water.  This gives a greater surface area for your stems to absorb water.  Doing this every day or two will keep the stem from clogging at the base.
